JOSE ROXAS LEVERIZA NOVEL, ANGEL OF THE LORD
The NBI incident (First Chapter) (First Installment)
The jeepney was crowded causing the riders to be tightly packed. Mike could smell the mix of shampoo and sweat on the shiny long hair of the girl pressed against his thighs and chest.
The feel of her body made Mike uncomfortable and he felt the stirring inside him so he tried to focus on what she was, a saleslady in blue uniform commuting to work. Certainly looking for love was the farthest thought on her mind that busy hot and humid morning, he admonished himself.
The driver zigzagged mindlessly to the curb as he honked the horn menacingly to all who got in his way. Jerking to a stop and nearly throwing his entire load over each other, he coarsely barked a curt," O UN Ave!"
Then not missing a beat he gunned the engine to a snarl. The utility jeep lurched as hapless passengers trying to get off fell stumbling by the wayside. "Mama, eerrrr, Bossing, dahan dahan naman, muntik nang madapa yung babae, you nearly killed the old lady " Mike accosted the reckless daredevil who jammed hard on the brake again to pitch everything forward.
The gruff toughie craned and turned to spoil for a fight but changed his mind. He checked himself and froze his face with the sourest scowl. Now and then, he threw fleeting glances at Mike through the embroidered rear view mirror like a chastised mischief maker.
