Abba Krishna Guide To Retiring In Paranaque City And An Ode To Threesh Gregory For The Joys And Charms Of Her Winsome Beauty

AN ODE TO THREESH GREGORY by Jose Roxas Leveriza

Whispers and whiffs in wispy frolicking wind chimes

Bells dotingly carouse your charms in tingling jingles

Mesmerize to energize souls that stoop with jaundices

Fresh again no gain in vain to sport with your caprices

Cheery smiles and cherry pies all dewdrops in your face

Win and wince, round the bend play games at your call

Love surrounds the happiness spray showers free for all

You are the one from Kingdom Come with heart of gold

Paranaque City is living around the Manila airport. On the western side there preside the Baclaran Cathedral, the Catholic Mecca and the epic sunset of Manila bay. On the eastern fringe there’s South Luzon Expressway with eight lanes filled to the brim with traffic swarming day and night. On its back riding above a monumental colonnade that looms pompously like a stunted replica of the awesome Louisiana viaduct over bayou marshes is the Skyway. The SLEX, as is the acronym known to all dumps the heavy movement of contraptions on wheels into the groaning arteries of the financial center and business hub of the Metro, Makati City.

Paranaque is the start of Manila’s suburbia spawning endlessly into the hinterlands of Laguna province. Thousands of begotten subdivisions and townships spill conveyances and feed automotive caravans into the guts of the SLEX to make the going a sputtering Mardi gras of speedy snatches and bogged down patches. Like sex you zoom to high intensity during the foreplay only to wilt in the tighter confines of cramped openings especially if you bogey the wrong hole. Don’t despair; they are hustling up to extend the second deck of the elevated Skyway to ease the crunch on the ground level. But who’s to stop the enclaves from multiplying like amoeba to quickly wipe out the gains with more trying circumstances brought by burgeoning denizens? Enter a more efficient train system but that’s departing from our tale.

The eastern side is the commercial maze of Jeepneys, wet markets, dry goods stalls, hawkers, and vendors. It is a bazaar heaven like one bustling flea market except the diesel fumes from the close formation of inching, lazy passenger utility jeeps make your nostrils unfit for inhaling sooty air. Never mind, forget the need to breathe because the excitement and the pleasant finds egg you on to explore and discover every nook and cranny. There’s the famous native whole roast pig called Lechon if you feel famished which after the Baclaran Church novena gives the place a secondary measure of renown.
Horny senior geezers palm their wallet pockets constantly and the bountiful alluring native women during the grinding squeezes into the alleys and get off very happily with nary a story of woe. C’mon, cool down Grandpa, rein in the tongue and try a coco juice cocktail for ten cents from the roadside cart. Take it easy on the ice cubes and the boobs of the nice young lady vendor.

Save it for the bawdy nightlife when the throbbing bars and discos lining the bayside strip stir to life with echoes and deep humping beat of the Tom Jones hit “Proud Mary”. Bring the dancing shoes, the undercover Viagra, and remember the cardinal rules of senior citizen lovemaking with a weakened cardio system. Rely on Yellow Pages and Google Search and let the fingers do the walking. Lie prone, keep still, and let her do all the acrobatics. Don‘t crane and strain your neck to spot and place the kisses lest you get blasted by pyrotechnics from gaseous half digested barbecue chicken marinated to volatility by stale beer and jiggled to explosive edge inside bellies swaying on the dance floor.

Proud Mary

Patience and expectation are the overriding themes of retirement. Why be scared of life on the wane if even Popes and Emperors couldn’t escape it? Inevitable oneness with all lives and things of Creation is achieved with the passing. That has been the lesson waiting to be learned while living. We belong to each other and to all things. We are parts that comprise One Whole that goes on to Infinity The expectation of this unity steers us to love at the ebbing of existence to begin the life worth waiting for. A life where being a brother’s keeper to our fellow men is a testament and a preview of Eternity that is the Final Destiny of all life who ever lived, who live, and will ever live.

Patience in retirement is the forbearance to see that all things are connected. The calmness of spirit and the wisdom emanates from such understanding of the lay of reality and the universe. That reality belongs to one dimension but even several dimensions of time and space all relate to the Progenitor. Expectation to finally come to the embrace and welcome of the Originator, Source, and Receptor makes the departure from this life such an event filled with high hopes. In lieu of fear and doubt, love comes to fill our hearts with a gladness to have fulfilled the course of our life spans. Misery and happiness become circumstances that see a coalition as many different segments of One History.
